Knowing all our best intentions never lit the world on fire

For some reason I didn't sleep well last night. Could it be the coffee that I had at around 6pm? Nah. Of course, it isn't helping me with my new resolution to kick this Starbucks habit... (what's a little more failure?) I have class until 6:40pm tonight and then have two group meetings after that right in a row. What I wouldn't give for a little down time.

There is volunteering this weekend, the sled-dog races, the play, and of course Seth Meyers is coming Thursday. Schedule in homework and I'm thrilled to hear two words: Spring Break.

Although, I am trying my best to stay in the here and now and not let these couple weeks past me by. I should be more worried about getting devoured by them, of course I'll leave that worry for the weeks following spring break...

There's been a lot on my mind lately, and not enough time to think about things. This makes me cranky and ornery.. I feel lately like I need to not put so much effort into friendships that seem to be moving on without me, and other friendships need more efforts or they will move on without me. Among other things, I have been a horrible friend lately.

On another note,
I was reading some Christian blogs and quickly got drowned in the crazy amount of terms that I'm not very familiar with: emergent church, world Christians, global Christianity. Woah. Wish I had time to read some more good Christian non-fiction.

I need my iron sharpened.

Valentine's Day: Making Grown Men Crumble

Walking through the grocery store, I came across something that would become a familiar sight this Valentine's Day:
a gruff looking, bear-belly, flannel shirt wearing man is looking at sprinkles in the cake aisle. I notice his cart sitting on the other side of the aisle. Inside the cart there is a heart shaped cookie-cake with red frosting. Kiss is printed on it in cursive letters.

Valentine's Day was made to humiliate the toughest of men.

Love conquers all, except for Samurai Ninjas.
But then again Samurai Ninjas have throwing stars to fight with.
And love is blind, so it’s not quite fair.

^ Not sure where this came from - a song, I think. But it cracks me up every time.

Oh, my sister and her "boy" got engaged (apparently 10% of couples get engaged on V-day). I'm excited for them, but this means I will be in two maybe three weddings this summer/fall and will be attending another aside from that (more if I wasn't going to be YouthWorks-ing this summer..)

Please, if you're considering getting engaged and you're going to want me to be in the wedding, you might want to consider a
2010
wedding. My schedule is kind of wedded out.

I saw Chuck at Best Buy..

Okay, so it wasn't THE Chuck, but it was a guy wearing a short sleeve button up with a black tie who had brown hair a lot like Zachary Levi's. For a moment, it was almost the fulfillment of a fantasy.

Clothes shopping is one of my least favorite activities, and I was definitely feeling the misery last Friday. Best Buy excited me more than anything, to tell you the truth.

We celebrated my birthday with my grandparents last night. It was nice to visit with them and play Farkle with them. I actually won a game, so that made it all that much more fun. My grandfather always tells the corniest jokes - I love them! I got to open presents from my family - I got a straightener (now my hair is really straight), Stellar Kart cd, watch (which is interesting to get used to again), and some long johns. It is strange to have celebrated early, but it was fun. Mom also made me a double chocolate cake - which was more brownie in texture.

It has been hard deciding what to do with all the time I have available - should I play the Sims, read, knit, watch tv or do something completely different? I love having some nice choices for once. My time was held prisoner by school, but now it's free!

I am definitely in a much happier mood now that I'm home. Yay!

Harry Potter

I have now seen enough Harry Potter to last me a few years (at least!). ABC Family has been playing the movies over and over again all weekend. Although I like Harry Potter (and have recently realized that a little boy at church reminds me of Daniel Radcliffe muchly) this is almost too much.

There is also that question of Cedric Digory/Edward Cullen. Confuses me, it does (woah, pulled a Yoda moment!). I had a discussion during the Christmas banquet dinner about Twilight, and I still haven't come to the conclusion of why I can't seem to get into those books. I say Edward is too perfect and that the Vampire-ness just adds to the perfection (as opposed to making him imperfect) because most girls like bad boys too... I'll argue the point until the cows come home.

You Passed 8th Grade Science

Congratulations, you got 8/8 correct!

Good to know, considering I will be teaching Science someday. Hopefully I can pass 15th-grade chemistry.
